Illegal housing discrimination can take many forms. Examples include: advertising housing only to preferred groups of people, denying housing to people because they have children, and refusals by landlords or homeowner associations to make reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities. Want to learn more about the law and fair housing in Fort Collins? What is the City's role? What you can do?

As part of April's Fair Housing Month, the City of Fort Collins will host a free Fair Housing Workshop on Monday, April 16, from 4-6 PM in the City’s offices at 215 North Mason Street in the Community Room. All residents are encouraged to participate. Fair housing issues can impact community members who are trying to rent, buy, sell, or finance a home or apartment. Speakers include City staff, Heidi Aggeler of BBC Research & Consulting, and James Whiteside, Equal Opportunity Specialist with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The Fair Housing Workshop will share preliminary results of a comprehensive study of fair housing choice in Fort Collins. This study is a federal requirement for funds Fort Collins receives for affordable housing. We will also explain fair housing law and your rights and responsibilities and discuss fair housing choice in Fort Collins. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about your rights and responsibilities under the Federal Fair Housing Act.

If you need a reasonable accommodation to enable you to participate fully in the workshop, please call Jennifer Harvey at 970-221-6758 or email her at A request for sign language interpretation is an example of a reasonable accommodation.
