Fort Collins police arrest 24 year-old Andrew Burgess Gregg of Windsor, Co on Tuesday evening, March 6, for a series of crimes including aggravated motor vehicle theft, attempted aggravated robbery and aggravated robbery.
On March 6, at 6:15 p.m. police responded to the report of a stolen vehicle from the 700 block of South Lemay Avenue. The owner had left the vehicle idling and unattended outside of a business in the area. The vehicle was described as a 1998 green Nissan Quest van.
At 6:31 p.m., while officers were investigating the vehicle theft, a robbery in progress was reported at the Senior Living Center located at 2350 Limon Drive in Fort Collins. The description of the suspect vehicle in the robbery matched the license plate number of the stolen vehicle. Witnesses reported that a Caucasian male wearing a hooded jacket and a mask demanded money from a clerk at the Senior Living Center. When he drew the attention of additional witnesses, he fled the scene. Nothing was obtained from the robbery attempt and no one was injured.
A short time later at approximately 6:50 p.m. two additional robberies were reported to police in the area of Corbett Drive and Harmony Road in Fort Collins. First to occur was an attempted robbery in the ATM drive through at the Wells Fargo bank at 2827 E. Harmony Road. A female victim was leaving the ATM drive through when a male suspect in a vehicle matching the above description of the stolen van blocked the drive. The suspect, a Caucasian male wearing a dark hooded jacket, dark pants and a mask across his face pounded on the victim’s car window and was yelling at her. The victim backed away from the suspect through the drive through lane and the suspect got back into the van and fled the business. The victim was unharmed and nothing was taken in the attempted robbery.
At almost the same time, police received a report of a robbery at the Subway restaurant located at 2815 E. Harmony Road, adjacent to the Wells Fargo Bank. Employees stated that a male wearing a black jacket and black pants with a bandana over his face had run into the store demanding all of the money. The suspect then jumped over the counter and grabbed money out of the register. The employees believe the suspect to be armed because he had something in his hand that was covered. The suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the business. A witness followed the suspect out of the business and South on foot toward a hotel in the area.
When police arrived in the area they found the stolen Nissan Quest van parked directly in front of the Subway restaurant and the keys to the van were lying on the sidewalk just outside the door of the Subway. Within minutes of arriving in the area, police contacted a male later identified as 24 year-old Andrew Burgess Gregg of Windsor. Gregg had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest from the Western slope area. Upon arrest, a significant amount of cash was found by officers stuffed into the suspect’s pants.
Gregg was booked into the Larimer County jail on the outstanding warrants. On March 7, Fort Collins Police detectives served an additional arrest warrant on Gregg while he was at the Larimer County jail. The arrest warrant was for one count of Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft (F4), two counts of Attempted Aggravated Robbery (F4), and one count of Aggravated Robbery (F3).
Police believe the suspect may have discarded several items including clothing as he fled the Subway robbery. These items may be of significance in the investigation of these crimes. The suspect may have also had contact with a citizen in a car at or near the Hilton Garden Inn located at 2821 E. Harmony Road in Fort Collins. Police are seeking any information from the public about any items found in the vicinity of the robbery on Tuesday evening. Police are also seeking any witnesses to any of the events described above who have not already spoken to the police. Anyone with information about the robbery is encouraged to call Detective Lynd at the Fort Collins Police at 970-221-6557 or Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at 970-221-6868.
