Joan Potter Black: Featured Artist in March
Joan Potter Black’s paintings will be on exhibit though the months of February and March at the Fort Collins Senior Center. Potter Black is a Fort Collins artist who works in pastel and watercolor but considers herself primarily a pastel artist. Her love for animals and young people is a theme carried throughout her paintings and she hopes that the viewer will feel a love connection transmitted through her subjects to all of us. Joan’s painting commissions are personal collections and her work has been exhibited throughout Northern Colorado.

Ice Fishing
Have you wanted to learn to ice fish but not had the chance? Join us as we start our day at Vern’s for breakfast and discuss the fundamentals of ice fishing. We will then depart to Dowdy Lake in Red Feather Lakes to try our luck at ice fishing. All equipment is provided, but you must have a fishing license for the day. Dress warmly and in layers. Tribute Concert to Creedence Clearwater Revival
This concert will feature the very best of CCR’s music. Although the band only produced music for 6 years they had 36 songs that impacted the music of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Their “Swamp Music” was very different from the psychedelic music of other groups. Cash bar and snacks. For tickets, call 970.221.6644.

Experience the World…Afghanistan
Members of the Fort Collins community, who generously share their hereditary culture or those who have had the privilege of world travel and experiences, provide us with a glimpse of the opportunity of better understanding ways of the world through art, music, food, dance, religion and traditions, history, geology and influence of politics. Presented by the City of Fort Collins Recreation Department and Our Global Village Museum of Arts & Cultures.

Lunch & Lecture: Experience Afghanistan History
The Cross Roads of the World Starting with Alexander the Great, Afghanistan has been a gateway, and it has valuable resources that many conquering people want. Afghanistan Book Discussion: “A Thousand Splendid Suns”, by Kahaled Hosseini
Experience the breathtaking story set against the volatile events of Afghanistan’s last 30 years – from the Soviet invasion to reign of the Taliban to the post-Taliban rebuilding – that puts the violence, fear, hope and faith of this country in intimate, human terms. Lunch & Lecture: American Woman in Afghanistan
Margaret will share her experiences from her three trips to Kabul with you using power point and examples of traditional Afghan embroidery. This is a country with a rich heritage and beautiful traditions, overlaid with over 30 years of war. Her heart is with the women who have experienced this and through it all, have tried to educate and feed their children. Lunch included. To register, call 970.221.6644.

Adventure Cinema: “Afghanistan and Pakistan” With Award-Winning Film Maker Marlin Darrah narrating in person
This travelogue style film explores “What do we really know about these intriguing war-torn countries?” See life on the streets and markets of Kabul, a city of 3 million. Travel across the Khyber Pass, the historical mountain pass separating the two countries. Walk through the exciting and colorful Peshwar street markets, filled with money changers, spice merchants, jewelry dealers, gem traders and rug sellers. Meet the tribal people of the area, the bearded Taliban rifle sellers and the women completely covered in purdah. Afghan dinner served. To register, call 970.221.6644.

Afghanistan Cultural Lunch & Lecture: The Traditional & the non-Traditional
