The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery Receives Significant Technology Donation from Hewlett-Packard
Released on Friday, February 24th, 2012
Thanks to the amazing HP Product Giving program providing a 3 to 1 match of employee contributions, Business Unit contributions, and the generosity of a HP Corporate Social Innovation Grant of $32,000 in product, a total of more than $285,000 of HP equipment will power exhibits and experiences in the new Fort Collins Museum of Discovery.
Following a presentation to the HP Site Leadership Team in 2010, a small group of dedicated HP volunteers considered how HP technology could be infused into the Museum’s exhibit design and into the amazing Digital Dome Theater. Over the following year, HP volunteers and staff spent many hours selecting the equipment best suited to the designed experiences in the Museum. HP Volunteers have also hosted tours of the Museum site, celebrated Museum Day at HP, hosted a Museum table in Charitable Giving Nonprofit Fairs, encouraged HP employees to participate in Museum activities, and promoted the Museum as a great place for HP employees to consider donating their philanthropic funds.
“It’s truly been an amazing partnership” notes Annette Geiselman, Executive Director of the Museum. “The HP volunteer engineers brought a level of expertise to the planning process that enabled us to design exhibits that will include the latest HP technology and achieve our mission to inspire inquisitive thinkers and encourage responsible stewardship of the past, present and future.”
The Fort Collins community has been fortunate that Hewlett-Packard (HP) selected to locate one of their plants here in 1978. A key force in the local community since that time, the employees have also been partners in scientific education in the region. They have volunteered in schools, pre-schools, hosted students at their site and served as advisors and donors to both the Fort Collins Museum and the Discovery Science Center.
The Fort Collins Museum and Discovery Science Center formed a partnership in 2008, and launched a capital campaign to raise $26.7 million for the development and construction of the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery. The new Museum will focus on creating meaningful opportunities for people of all ages to learn, reflect and have fun through hands-on and collections-based experiences in science and culture. The new Fort Collins Museum of Discovery will draw visitors from across Colorado and the adjoining states to experience a unique interpretation of the impact of science and culture on our communities and our lives.
The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery is a state-of-the-art facility designed to engage visitors in hands-on and minds-on experiences in science and culture. Opportunities for support are ongoing. The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery is located at 408 Mason Court, Fort Collins. the For information about the museum and opportunities for support, please call 970-221-6738.
