
December 30, 2011 (Fort Collins, CO) – For 100 years City Park has been a center-point for family gatherings, cultural events and community celebrations. In 2012 the City of Fort Collins will hold a year-long celebration in honor of City Park’s historic contribution to the community. The “100 Years of City Park” celebration kicks-off at City Hall on January 3rd as an official proclamation will be read prior to the City Council meeting. City Park’s unique and fascinating history reflects the community’s character while tightly linking several generations of residents and visitors. City Park is closely tied to the economic and social history of Fort Collins.
On January 3rd at 6:30 PM an official proclamation will be read at City Hall, 300 LaPorte Avenue. After the proclamation is read the community is invited to a “100 Years of City Park” community ice skate on Sheldon Lake at City Park, 1500 West Mulberry Street (weather permitting). The lake will be lighted to provide a safe and enjoyable skating experience. The events on January 3rd will kick-off a year-long “100 Years of City Park” celebration that includes a variety of activities including an expanded Fourth of July celebration this summer at City Park. The City's 2012 Fourth of July, celebrating the “100 Years of City Park,” will feature a parade (highlighting 100 years of transportation), food vendors, and expanded entertainment
The City plans to offer the community quarterly updates on “100 Years of City Park” celebrations, events and activities. The City will unveil a webpage on fcgov.com that will feature City Park’s history, a calendar of events, a photo gallery and an opportunity to submit your photos and stories regarding City Park. Community members and businesses are invited to include personal perspectives on their experiences at City Park. Photos and stories will be shared with the community and displayed throughout the year.
