North Lemay Avenue will be closed Wednesday, Oct. 28 - Tuesday, Nov. 3 during the installation of a water transmission main between Conifer St. and East Vine Dr, weather permitting. East Larimer County Water District (ELCO) owns the waterline and is managing the project. The contractor performing the work is Garney Construction.
The City of Fort Collins is coordinating detour routes and monitoring the excavation. Travelers should use Vine Dr., North College Ave. and Conifer St. while N. Lemay is closed. Lemay, between Vine and Forest Hills, was resurfaced earlier this year. “We worked extensively with ELCO to try and facilitate completion of the water line prior to our paving operation,” explains Pavement Management Program Manager Erika Keeton. “ELCO made every effort to coordinate with us, but due to excessive costs, we were unable to align the projects into one.” ”The City of Fort Collins and ELCO looked at several options to complete the necessary waterline replacement and refrain from cutting the road twice. Unfortunately, the timing was off and we regret the inconvenience the construction will cause the traveling public,” stated ELCO District Engineer Darwin Williams. ELCO will place a permanent patch the width of the trench when the work is completed. The area will be repaved by ELCO in the spring to match existing pavement.
