Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Accident

On June 19 at 1:20 p.m., Fort Collins Police was notified of an accident at East Harmony Road and Snow Mesa Drive involving a van and a motorcycle. Police found a 2004 Honda Odyssey van was on eastbound Harmony waiting to turn left onto Snow Mesa. The motorcycle, a 2007 Harley Davidson, was traveling westbound on Harmony. As the lights changed, the van turned left in front of the motorcycle. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 53 year-old man from Fort Collins, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name will be released by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the van, Robert Wakefield, an 83 year-old from Fort Collins, and his passenger, Priscilla Wakefield, an 82 year-old from Fort Collins, were both treated at the scene and released without injuries.
Eastbound lanes of Harmony Road were closed for approximately 4 hours while police investigated the accident. Alcohol did NOT contribute to the accident. Police are investigating whether excessive speed was involved. Witnesses reported the motorcycle was speeding prior to the accident. The speed limit on Harmony Road east of Snow Mesa is 55 m.p.h.
