Beginning Saturday, May 10, the City of Fort Collins will begin a road resurfacing project called Hot-In-
Place Recycling on East Harmony Road between Strauss Cabin Road and the railroad tracks west of Timberline. The project is estimated to last approximately 4 weeks and will slow traffic due to lane closures.

Like conventional resurfacing methods, Hot-In-Place improves the smoothness, durability and appearance of a street, but also provides a like-new pavement surface in a relatively short timeframe. This project will be performed by Cutler Repaving, Inc. of Lawrence, Kansas.

Traffic Impacts
Typically working hours are weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Through-traffic will be permitted, but may be limited to only one lane per direction or one direction only. Extended hours and weekend work will be utilized to help avoid some traffic congestion. Considerable delays can be expected for the duration of the project, and alternate routes are suggested to avoid the construction zone.

The south half of the Harmony and Timberline intersection will be CLOSED on Saturday, May 10th. The north half of the intersection will be CLOSED on Sunday, May 11th. East and westbound Harmony traffic and Timberline cross traffic will be rerouted around the work zone. The detour routes include Ziegler Road, Horsetooth Road, Lemay Avenue, Trilby Road, Timberline Road and Kechter Road. See attached map.

Other nearby streets also scheduled for resurfacing are South Lemay Avenue between East Harmony Road and Muirfield Way, East Horsetooth Road between South Timberline Road and Ziegler Road, and South Timberline Road between Vermont Drive and East Harmony Road. An additional 4 weeks will be needed to complete hot-in-place recycling work at these locations.

A significant amount of preparatory work is also underway, including utility modifications, concrete repairs, and asphalt patching.

Hot-In-Place Recycling
Hot-In-Place Recycling uses specially designed equipment in a simultaneous multi-step process that removes an inch of asphalt, recycles it with a rejuvenating agent, and then puts it back on the surface along with an additional inch of new asphalt. This process allows for a single pass operation, which means the road can be immediately re-opened after the material has been compacted, thereby minimizing the total time a lane is closed to traffic. The costs are also extremely competitive when compared to conventional resurfacing techniques.
