image for press release Nine Fort Collins Historic Landmarks Get Help to Preserve Our Rich History For the first time in a decade, citizens and visitors will see and hear the splash of water at the Avery House's sandstone fountain. A one-of-a-kind Art Deco home on West Street will be saved from water damage with a new roof. The hand-carved corbels on the Stover Mansion at 503 Remington Street will be rebuilt and restored. And this is just three of the nine landmarks.

On February 27, 2008, The Landmark Preservation Commission (LPC) awarded nine properties a total of $34,000 in Landmark Rehabilitation Loans. These loans are matched by applicant funds equal to $43,000. These modest loans provide huge returns in improved neighborhood quality of life.

Loan monies in 2008 will be used to assist:

• rehabilitation of the fountain at the Avery House on Mountain Avenue;
• rehabilitation of the adobe exterior of the Museo de las Tres Colonias in the Andersonville neighborhood;
• rehabilitation of an historic front porch at 610 Cherry Street;
• installation of storm windows at 1006 West Mountain Avenue;
• rehabilitation of exterior architectural elements at 426 East Oak Street;
• rehabilitation of architectural elements and replacement of a porch roof at the Stover Mansion, 503 Remington Street;
• replacement of a roof and non-historic siding and door at 1609 Remington Street;
• re-roofing of an Art-Deco home at 237 West Street;
• rehabilitation of windows at 215 Whedbee Street.

BACKGROUND
Since the programs inception in 1995, the City has awarded over $300,000 in funding, which has leveraged $2.8 million in private funds for investments into historic properties. The Landmark Rehabilitation Loan Program provides funding for owners to rehabilitate Fort Collins historic landmarks. City of Fort Collins awards zero-interest loans to owners of residential and commercial properties for amounts up to $5,000. Loan recipients must match the loan amount dollar for dollar. The program is a source of funding for exterior rehabilitation, awarded in a competitive process, and provides incentives for owners of undesignated, eligible properties to obtain a landmark designation. The Landmark Rehabilitation Loan Program is designed to increase the quality, integrity and permanence of the Citys historic landmarks for the enjoyment and benefit of present and future generations of Fort Collins.
