After a nation-wide search, local candidate Mike Freeman has accepted a position as the new economic advisor for the City of Fort Collins. He will begin work with the City on Friday, March 24.
For the past two years, Mr. Freeman served as the president of the Local Government Solutions Group, a management consulting firm that focuses on the needs of local governments. In recent months, he has assisted the City of Fort Collins with several economic health issues, working as a consultant both through the Budgeting for Outcomes (BFO) process and with the Economic Vitality and Sustainability Action Group (EVSAG). Previously, Mr. Freeman served as City Administrator of Ashland, Ore., and spent seven years working for the City of Thornton, Colo.
“Mike brings extensive knowledge to the economic advisor position,” said City Manager Darin Atteberry. “His commitment to the Fort Collins community and his prior consulting work with the City allow him a unique insight and perspective which will be an asset to the business community and the city as a whole.”
The City of Fort Collins, with the assistance of Waters-Oldani Executive Recruitment, conducted a national search to refill the Economic Advisor position in order to build partnerships among the public and private sectors, and Fort Collins residents. The Economic Advisor will report directly to the City Manager and will coordinate a cross-departmental economic lead team to support the retention and expansion of business in Fort Collins.
