The Elizabeth and Shields intersection project is near completion and will be open to the public next week. The City will install the final traffic signal pole at the Elizabeth and Shields intersection on August 10 and August 15.
Lane closures will be required to complete the work at the northwest corner of the intersection. Beginning at 5 a.m. on Thursday, August 10, westbound Elizabeth will be closed at Shields Street, along with the southbound right turn lane from Shields to Elizabeth. Crews will finish this work by late afternoon and re-open the lanes to traffic the same day. The August 15 work will be during the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and will require a shutdown of the traffic signals; the intersection will be controlled by flaggers. Please allow for a few extra minutes of travel time on August 15.
Bicycle, pedestrian, and vehicle detour routes are posted on the project website and displayed via signs in the vicinity of the work zone. Recommended detour routes are Mulberry or Prospect to Taft Hill or College. Local and business access will be open during the lane closures.
The City reminds the traveling public to please slow down and avoid distractions when driving through the construction zone.
