[Updated] Police Investigate Motorcycle Collision

On July 15, motorcycle rider James Burnfield died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.

The investigation is continuing in this case. Anyone with information about the collision, who has not already given a statement to police, is asked to contact Officer Shane Hasebroock at 970-221-6555.

On July 15 at approximately 10:01am, Fort Collins Police Services was notified of a car versus motorcycle collision at the intersection of Linden Street and Linden Center Drive.

A Mercedes sedan was traveling north on Linden Street before making a U-turn at the intersection with Linden Center Drive. A motorcycle, traveling north behind the sedan on Linden Street, collided with the driver side of the sedan.

The driver of the Mercedes, Daniel Carrico, 32, of Fort Collins, was not injured. The driver of the motorcycle, James Burnfield, 47, of Fort Collins, was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies for treatment.

The intersection of Linden Street and Linden Center Drive was closed for approximately 3 hours while investigators collected evidence. Police do not believe alcohol or speed contributed to the collision. The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
