Untangle the strings and tighten the bows, the annual Kites in the Park is this Sunday, May 21 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Spring Canyon Community Park. For 10 years, The City of Fort Collins Recreation Department has hosted this free event, welcoming community members to grab their kites and let them soar.
Kite attractions from around the country will be present for kite flying, demonstrations, and competitions. HobbyTown USA will once again offer kite making kits for those who want to decorate their own kite. Local artisans, food trucks, and recreational enthusiasts will be at the festival with items for sale, as well.
The Confucius Institute at Colorado State University will demonstrate flying large Chinese kites. Children are invited to participate in the coordinated Rokkaku kites battles by trying to knock other kites out of the sky. This year, kids are also encouraged to join in on other kite games, and sign up to participate in the fun-filled stick rodeo, hosted by the Greeley Stampede.
The forecast for this weekend looks favorable, and crowds exceeding 6,000 people are expected. A free shuttle service between Hughes Stadium and Spring Canyon Park will be provided to ease parking and traffic around the park. Using the shuttle service is highly encouraged.
