The Fort Collins Senior Center Expansion Committee, a citizen-led 501C3 formed in 2007, has been awarded a Daniels Fund grant totaling $150,000. The funds will be utilized toward the Fort Collins Senior Center expansion project scheduled to begin this October. The Senior Center Expansion Committee's goal is to raise an additional $1 million for the expansion project. The City of Fort Collins Recreation Department has contributed $500,000 toward that goal and the Expansion Committee has raised an additional $355,000. The committee is working to raise the remaining $145,000 by October 31, 2013. They are focusing fundraising efforts on private donors, local businesses, and foundations like the Daniels Fund. The Expansion Committee has also recently received a $25,000 grant from the Boettcher Foundation.
"Our Expansion Committee volunteers have been working hard to raise funds for this project, largely through donations from Senior Center members and users who value the programs and services the Senior Center offers to our community," said Linda Hopkins, President of the Expansion Committee. "We are so very pleased that the City of Fort Collins Recreation Department and Colorado foundations like the Daniels Fund and Boettcher Foundation support the Senior Center expansion project."
