Police Investigate Bicycle Collision

On August 20, at about 5:30am, Fort Collins Police Services was notified of a car versus bicycle collision in the west intersection of Lemay Avenue and Horsetooth Road.
A black 2000 Volkswagen sedan was traveling west on Horsetooth Road in the inside lane. As the sedan approached the intersection with Lemay Avenue, the bicyclist was traveling south on Lemay Avenue on the west side of the roadway. The Volkswagen sedan entered the intersection with a green signal light. At the same time, the bicyclist entered the intersection and rode in front of the car. The front of the sedan collided with the bicyclist.
The bicyclist, Nathaniel Udel, 31, of Fort Collins, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies for treatment. He was not wearing a helmet. The driver of the Volkswagen sedan, Raegan Beaver, 34, of Fort Collins, was not injured.
The intersection of Lemay Avenue and Horsetooth Road was closed for about 3 hours while investigators processed the scene. Police do not believe alcohol or speed contributed to the collision. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-221-6555.
