The Shields Street Bridge just south of Rolland Moore Park will reopen all lanes of traffic to motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians on Thursday morning, June 13.
The Shields Street Bridge has been under construction since September 2012. While the bridge remained open to traffic, travelers experienced lane reductions and redirection. Construction on the project included old bridge demolition, utility relocation, new bridge construction, and surface improvements. Replacing the bridge was a necessity after it was identified as being structurally deficient. New bridge girders, curb and gutter, decorative concrete sidewalks and parkways, bridge rails, and concrete pavement were installed as part of the bridge replacement.
Travelers will still notice crews on site while pedestrian rail and landscape work is completed.
