Major construction on the MAX Bus Rapid Transit system in Downtown Fort Collins this summer will impact many businesses and restaurants on Mason Street. Businesses and the public are invited to attend a Business Access Open House on Monday, May 7, 3-6 p.m., in the City’s Planning, Development and Transportation building, 281 N. College Avenue.

Railroad Replacement July 23-29 FULL CLOSURE OF MASON STREET
In addition to MAX construction, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad will be replacing the railroad tracks on Mason Street from Cherry Street to Laurel Street July 23-29. During this week, the Railroad’s special rail machinery will remove and replace all the steel rails and ties in Downtown. Mason Street and its intersections will be closed to all traffic from Cherry Street to Laurel Street. The Railroad will work on the project 24 hours a day for the seven day closure. Access to businesses and restaurants along Mason will be shut off, however, businesses will remain open and can be accessed through Howes Street, College Avenue or alley entrances.

Rolling Closures on Mason Street July 16-22 and July 30-Aug. 3
Pre- and post-construction activities will require closures on Mason Street between Cherry and Laurel Streets the week before and after the rail replacement. From July 16- 22 and July 30- August 3 crews for the various construction activities will be closing large sections of Mason Street at a time. Intersections will remain open as much as possible.

Find Your Way
By attending the Business Access Open House, businesses and their customers can see first hand, on large printed maps, how they will enter and exit these affected businesses. City staff will be on hand to answer specific, individual access and parking questions. There will not be a formal presentation.

The public is strongly encouraged to sign up for construction alerts (emails) on fcgov.com/mason">www. fcgov.com/mason. During the construction updates will be sent via email alerts, tweeted on the City’s Twitter account, @fortcollinsgov, and posted on the fcgov.com/mason">www. fcgov.com/mason webpage. Variable message boards around the Downtown will also display closure information and updates.

About Mason Corridor
Mason Corridor is an economic initiative enabled by transit. When complete, it will combine transit, trails, public infrastructure and private investment to spur redevelopment along the corridor. Crafted by community members, the vision that was created sixteen years ago is becoming a reality.

MAX is on the Way!
MAX will link major destinations and activity centers along the corridor including the Downtown commercial, Colorado State University, Foothills Mall, and South College retail areas. MAX will operate nearly twice as fast as auto travel along College Avenue, and provide high frequency service every 10 minutes. Future regional transit connections will link to MAX at the new South Transit Center.

The $87 million project is funded 80 percent by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The remaining 20 percent is available from the City of Fort Collins, Downtown Development Authority, CSU/Colorado State University Research Foundation, and Colorado Department of Transportation.
