Last Fall’s Broken Branches are Back as This Spring’s Free Mulch

Released on Friday, April 13th, 2012
Contact Information
Everyone remembers the October 2011 snow and wind storm that caused significant tree branch damage around the city. The City of Fort Collins Streets Department led clean-up efforts and collected over 21,000 cubic yards of branches. With a plan to prevent all of that material from going to the landfill, the City decided to store it and turn the branches into mulch for the community in the spring. Now, spring is here and like lemonade out of lemons, we’re making mulch out of branches!

The mulch will be available to the public at no charge at the City’s Crushing Operations facility, located at 1380 Hoffman Mill Road, starting April 21. The facility is making special arrangements to be open two Saturdays in April for the convenience of citizens:

Saturday, April 21, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday, April 28, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Beginning Monday, April 23, mulch will also be available during the facility’s regular operating hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public will not be able to pick up mulch when Crushing Operations is closed.

Mulch will be given away on a first come, first served basis until it is all gone.
