Starting in April, the City of Fort Collins will continue work to repair sidewalks in the Downtown area; repairs have been phased each spring since the effort began in 2010. The goal of the overall project has been to identify, evaluate, and repair deteriorating pedestrian and sidewalk facilities within the defined boundary of the Downtown General Improvement District (GID).
Improvements Planned for Spring 2012:
• Upgrade the pedestrian facilities on the north side of the 100 block of E Olive Street.
• Repair and redesign the hazardous sidewalk area at 215 South College, north of Ace Hardware.
o This section will be redesigned to eliminate the deteriorating sidewalk and clearly define the pedestrian sidewalk through the drive approach to the Fort Collins Museum of Art.
• Redesign the sidewalk facilities on the east side of the 100 block of Remington Street to eliminate the pedestrian hazards south of the parking garage.
• Address numerous pedestrian hazards due to the settlement of decorative pavers at each intersection of College Avenue from Oak Street to Laporte Avenue.
All work is anticipated to be complete by the end of May in advance of the summer Downtown shopping season. Crews will ensure that work zones are open and clear during the weekend of Colorado State University’s Commencement and Mother’s Day, May 11 – 13.
