On October 30, 2009 Colorado State University Police Department, in conjunction with the Larimer County DUI Taskforce, hosted a multi-agency DUI Sobriety Saturation Patrol in Fort Collins. Saturation patrols are utilized in an effort to reduce the incidents of intoxicated and impaired motorists being involved in collisions. The saturation patrols are also a law enforcement tool to apprehend the impaired motorists before they injure others and destroy property. This event was sponsored by the Colorado State University Police Department (CSUPD) and funded in part by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), Estes Park Police Department and the Fort Collins Police Department were also in attendance.

The results of the saturation patrol are as follows:
85 motorists contacted, 11 citations issued, 3 warrant arrests, 6 DUI arrests, 1 habitual traffic offender arrest; 10 total arrests.

In addition to removing impaired motorists, DUI enforcement is aimed at increasing awareness of driving impaired and the consequences for those who do. Over 17,000 were killed by impaired motorists in 2006 and another 250,000 were injured. Property Damage is estimated to be in the billions of dollars.

Remember: OVER THE LIMIT, UNDER ARREST!
