Natural Areas Eagle Scout Volunteer Opportunities

The Eagle Scout Award is scouting's highest rank and therefore is the most difficult to achieve. One of the requirements for the Eagle Scout rank is to plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project. Eagle Scout service projects are to be substantial and are meant to leave a lasting impression on the community.

The Fort Collins Natural Areas Department is happy to work with Eagle Scout candidates to meet their Eagle Scout service project requirement. You must propose your own service project idea. By applying to fulfill your service project requirement with the Natural Areas Department you are entering into a serious commitment but one that will be rewarding to you and have a lasting benefit to your community.

If your proposed project is accepted, you will be assigned a mentor through the Natural Areas Department who will be your main contact and help guide you through project completion. Please allow 6-9 months to complete the project.

Steps for submitting your proposal:

1. Spend some time in a natural area and think about what might make that natural area more accessible to community or more valuable for the wildlife.

2. Discuss projects with your troop leaders and parents to make sure they feel the project is right for you.

3. Download and print the proposal form. Fill out the proposal and submit to:
Natural Areas Department Volunteer Coordinator
PO Box 580
Fort Collins, CO 80522

4. The Volunteer Coordinator will read your proposal and contact you as to whether or not your project has been accepted. Please allow at least 2 weeks for this process.
