Fun and Free Activities in December

Astronomy, Friday, December 10, 6-9 p.m., Fossil Creek Reservoir Regional Open Space.  Join knowledgeable and friendly volunteers from the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society to enjoy stargazing.  Dress for colder than forecast temperatures and bring a folding chair.  No registration required. 

Eagle Watch, Saturday, December 11, 9-11 a.m.  Fossil Creek Reservoir Regional Open Space.  Join a volunteer Master Naturalist for wonderful views of eagles while learning about these majestic birds.  Be prepared for the weather and a short walk along a paved trail to the viewing area. Binoculars and scopes are provided. Free, no registration necessary. Also offered December 25, 9:30-11 a.m., January 15, 9-11 a.m. and February 12, 9-11 a.m.

Total Lunar Eclipse, Monday, December 20, 11:30 p.m.-3:30 a.m., Fossil Creek Reservoir Regional Open SpaceJoin knowledgeable and friendly volunteers from the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society to enjoy this special event.  Dress for colder than forecast temperatures and bring a folding chair.  No registration required.

Winter Constellations at Bobcat Ridge Natural Area, Tuesday, December 28, 4:30-7:30 p.m.  Meet at the picnic shelter.  Learn to identify some of the awesome winter constellations and hear stories that explain the images in the sky. Bring the family! Afterwards, view the sky with telescopes provided by the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society. REGISTRATION REQUIRED--call 970-416-2815 or email naturalareas@fcgov.com.

Winter Hike at Bobcat Ridge Natural Area, Tuesday, December 28, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Meet at the picnic shelter. Enjoy a stroll on the Valley Loop and learn about winter plants and animals along the way.  No registration required.
