History of the Natural Areas Program
Eagle's Nest
In 1992, Fort Collins citizens decided to tax themselves to establish the Natural Areas Program.
The citizens of Fort Collins have created a legacy of natural resource protection. In 1992, Fort Collins citizens overwhelmingly decided to tax themselves to establish the Natural Areas Program. Additional sales tax initiatives passed by voters in 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2002. These have extended the revenues the Natural Areas Program receives from the County Help Preserve Open Space sales tax to 2018 and the revenues the Natural Areas Program receives from the City sales tax to 2030.
