Update: Mason Street Conversion to Two-Way Operation
- Erika Keeton | Special Projects Manager |

Construction work on Mason Street in Downtown Fort Collins is currently suspended for the winter, but will resume in the spring of 2012. Weather extremes prevent crews from working on underground infrastructure and patching asphalt. Read more in the press release at fcgov.com/news
Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Funding Update
- Helen Migchelbrink | City Engineer |

Most of the funding for the MAX Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) comes from the FTA. While congress has officially approved the MAX project, we still have to follow federal guidelines and processes (and let’s be honest, paperwork) in order to receive the money. City staff and the FTA are collaboratively working on finalizing the Project Construction Grant Agreement which will need to be approved by City Council as part of the process. We expect to sign the Grant Agreement in the first quarter of 2012, and that’s when the full allocation will be available for use.
What to Expect in 2012
  • 2012 will be a busy year for Mason Corridor:
  • Funding from the FTA arrives.
  • Mason and MAX public celebration and kick-off event.
  • Requests for proposals will go out and firms hired to build the new South Transit Center, the new Transfort Maintenance Facility, the underpass at Troutman, the overpass behind Whole Foods and the Bus Rapid Transit guideway/infrastructure itself!
  • The railroad comes to town for seven days in late July to replace and rebuild the track system on Mason Street between Maple and Laurel Streets.
  • Two-way conversion of Mason Street occurs in August
  • And much more!
