Figaro, Figaro, Fiiiiiigaro! You know the tune, but have you seen the opera?
Join Opera Fort Collins as we close the 2011-12 season with one of the greatest comic operas of all time, The Barber of Seville. Figaro, Seville’s favorite barber, gets everyone in a lather as he helps Count Almaviva (initially disguised as a poor student) win the object of his affection, the beautiful Rosina. Unfortunately, this delectable ingénue is kept securely sequestered by her sleazy guardian Doctor Bartolo and oily music master Don Basilio. So the barber and the “student” must infiltrate the household in order to reach her. A series of identity changes, duplicity, subterfuge, close shaves – and even bits of shrewd manipulation by Rosina herself – set the stage for sharp-edged comedic chaos as Figaro devises ways to bring the young lovers together. A classic Rossini score – with some of the most delightful music ever written for the stage – virtuostic singing, and an energetic cast of established national and local emerging artists make this a don’t-miss Colorado event.
