New Year Brings New Realities

With the new year comes the opportunity to take a look at the past and imagine what the future holds, even create a new reality. With the tools of digital photography, art and technology, four artists in “Reflections and Resolutions: Creating New Worlds in Digital Art” do just that by reordering life’s fragments to imagine new realities. Opening on Friday, January 17th, with an Opening Reception from 5-7 p.m., the Lincoln Center Art Galleries' new exhibit runs through Saturday, March 8, 2014.

Each of the four featured artists envision very different worlds. Living in Fort Collins, Osvaldo Buccafusca’s cosmic environments are mathematically derived, creating visual beauty from complex algorithms known as fractals. Also from Fort Collins, Daniel Fonken’s “China Project” is firmly rooted in reality as he brings into focus the clash of traditional, third world Chinese culture and lifestyle against the first world “progress” of contemporary mega-cities. Massachusetts artist Fran Forman draws on her skills in illustration, photography, painting and digital technology, to create “dreamed landscapes” conveying surreal worlds of dreams and memory. Hailing from Chattanooga, Tennessee, Daryl Thetford’s work is based in the chaos of images with which we are bombarded on a daily basis – advertisements, news images and more – combining them to articulate the beauty that can emerge from disorder.

Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Fridays, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays, noon – 6:00 p.m. The Gallery is closed Sundays and Mondays, and is open for most evening theatre performances. Admission is free.

Supporting Your Community

In 1980, two years after the Lincoln Center opened, the Lincoln Center Support League was founded. Its purpose was to enhance the quality of the Lincoln Center, both in building improvements and in providing enriched cultural experiences for the community. Today, over 33 years later, the LC Support League still continues to do that.

As a non-profit organization, the Support League works in partnership with the Lincoln Center to excite, enlighten, and educate young people through the performing arts, in addition to promoting cultural opportunities in the community. Funds raised by the Support League (like through its primary fundraiser “A Holiday Tradition”) have continued a number of community outreach programs, events and projects, such as:

  • live performing arts presentations for Poudre School District middle school students
  • support of art exhibits in the Lincoln Center Gallery
  • free summer concerts
  • Fort Collins Studio Tour
  • the 2010-2011 Lincoln Center renovation and expansion project
  • free community presentation by the Air Force Falconaires
  • the LC Terrace water sculpture and other artwork on display at the Lincoln Center
  • and much more!

If you'd like to be a part of this important organization and all the exciting things they do, membership is open to all members of the community. Click here for more information about how to join.
