Two Trees Transformed

On National Arbor Day the Lincoln Center Art Gallery opened the "Two Trees" exhibition and silent auction. Everything in the gallery is made and donated by 21 local Colorado artists from the wood of two mature Ash trees that were removed from the Lincoln Center grounds. All the objects, from furniture to fine art sculptures, are open to public silent auction bidding.

Bidding is open now through June 7. Be sure to stop in to see these beautiful and unique artworks and bid on your favorites! From a stunning Asian influenced cabinet, to poetry printed on paper made from the tree's wood pulp, you will be astonished at the beauty, imagination and craftsmanship of these artists!

Put June 7th on your calendar and plan to attend the closing reception at 6:30 p.m. Artist Charles Boone will discuss his "Orchard Series" printmaking project that is also on display in the Lobby Gallery at 5:30 p.m. Bidding ends at 8:30 p.m. All proceeds from the auction benefit the Lincoln Center Visual Arts programs and the Fort Collins Forestry Department.

Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Fridays, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays, noon – 6:00 p.m. The Gallery is closed Sundays and Mondays, and is open for most evening theatre performances. Admission is free.

The Devil, You Say?

Lost youth, devilish apparitions, banter and bargaining, poisoned drinks, innocent women, romantic men, brave soldiers, betrayal, murder, a chest of jewels, greed and gold... does opera get any better than this?

Opera Fort Collins will close its 2012-13 season here on our main stage on May 31st with Faust. Based on Goethe's ancient legend, French composer Charles Gounod unravels the tale of an aging and disillusioned scholar named Faust. The man yearns for a youthful life and the worldly pleasures that he never experienced. The devil's agent Méphistophélès is all too happy to grant this selfish wish, but there is a catch: the price tag is Faust's soul. After signing away his life, Faust all too happily pursues the lovely and innocent Marguerite who has become the target of his desire. She unwittingly falls victim to the diabolical pact when Faust seduces her. Of course, all hell breaks loose as fatal consequences begin to unfold following Faust's transformation. Heaven only knows where bargaining with the devil will get you...

A lecture about this performance by Dr. Gerald W. Holbrook will be held Thursday May 23, 7:00 p.m. at the Old Town Main Library, 201 Peterson Street.
