New Legacies: Contemporary Art Quilts

The Lincoln Center Art Gallery opens its 29th annual exhibition of art quilts with a new name that reflects the contemporary evolution of the long-running exhibition. Now open, New Legacies: Contemporary Art Quilts features the work of 34 artists from the United States and Canada with 49 quilts on display.

The exhibition started in 1981 as the Fabric of Legacies and consisted mainly of traditional family and historic quilts. Over the years, the exhibition has taken a more contemporary direction, seeking artists who are working to innovate and advance the field of art quilting with new techniques, technology, and materials. Advancements in surface design techniques, textiles and machine quilting technology have changed the face of quilting. The creative vision of artists has brought contemporary quilting into the realm of fine art.

Juried from a selection of entries from around the country and Canada, the exhibition features the work of some of the best artists working in the field. Most of the quilts feature original surface design through hand-dying, painting or printing on the fabric as the basis for the quilt design, embellishing with hand or machine stitching, and sometimes beads and other objects worked into the quilt. All of the quilts have in common the basic structure of layered fabrics held together by stitching.

The exhibition runs from October 7th through November 13th.

A Holiday Tradition Returns

The Lincoln Center Support League is proud to present The 31st Annual Hall of Gifts November 4th-6th. Renovations required the event be held off-site last year but the local artisan's fair returns, better than ever, to the Lincoln Center's newly remodeled Canyon West and Columbine Rooms this year.

This annual event has become a community holiday tradition that features over 50 booths of handcrafted items, including jewelry, clothing, glasswork, pottery, photography, food items and much more. There will also be a café and espresso cart to provide refreshments and even a bite of lunch. Come in and get your shopping done before the holiday rush.

Saturday, November 5 - 10:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.

This event is a fundraiser for the Lincoln Center Support League, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to work in partnership with the Lincoln Center to Excite, Enlighten and Educate young people through to performing arts in addition to promoting cultural opportunities in the community.

Be sure to look for the Gallery of Trees, a new twist on the past Hall of Trees event, that includes a silent auction of fully decorated holiday trees November 18th - 27th in the Lincoln Center Art Gallery!

Ticket Buyers Beware!

There are many online websites or “resellers” that will lead you to believe that they are an official ticket seller for Lincoln Center events. BEWARE!

Since we have improved our online sales capabilities, secondary ticket resellers have looked to take advantage of our patrons by creating sites to resell Lincoln Center tickets sometimes at up to five times the normal face value. We have had several instances where patrons are being fooled into buying tickets on other sites not affiliated with us in any way. Unfortunately, this is not illegal and we cannot make the ticket resellers cease and desist. and the Lincoln Center Facebook page are the ONLY official authorized online ticket purchase points for Lincoln Center events.
Always start here when purchasing tickets online.

If you purchase tickets from another website or ticket reseller we cannot guarantee that those tickets are legitimate. If there is a problem with tickets purchased from such companies we will not be able to assist you.

Note: The following article was written by Travis Garrish, owner of Forma Furniture, who along with his wife Dee Ann Garrish donated all of the amazing new furniture to the Lincoln Center. If you haven’t seen it yet, stop by and check it out!

By Travis Garrish, Lincoln Center sponsor

Dee Ann’s family started importing and selling Danish Furniture in the early 1970’s. Upon moving to Fort Collins the idea was born to continue the family legacy.

We want our showroom to reflect our belief: if we wouldn’t put it in our house, we wouldn’t feel comfortable putting it in yours. Our style is unique, fresh and comfortable, with quality guaranteed.

Our business thrives when our customers happily spread the word about Forma Furniture. We opened our newest store in Boulder this July. Our core values and belief that you deserve comfort, you deserve quality and you deserve value show in everything we do, and our success has proven our dedication to our customers.

Our 7th Anniversary Party will include giveaways to all our VIP e-club members and special savings, and our Grand Celebration will be held on Saturday, October 29th, from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. We will be serving Norwegian delicacies like smoked salmon and cheeses. We’ll also be giving away tickets to South Pacific and gift baskets by Backcountry Baskets with a minimum purchase.

When we first discussed the idea of helping with the Lincoln Center renovation, we knew we wanted to help, but we couldn’t do it alone. So, in partnership with the Wilkins Charitable trust, we were able to donate all of the furniture to the renovation. From the beautiful custom lobby bench, to the modern classic Corbusier style chairs and sofas to our favorite colorful and funky outdoor patio furniture, we had a blast decorating the new spaces. We are thrilled to show off our beautiful contemporary furniture and the city’s new crown jewel.

Staff Performance Pick
The Lincoln Center staff is excited about the upcoming performance season! We want to share our excitement with you so each month we'll be featuring one staff member's pick for a great evening out at the LC!

Straight No Chaser - By Ty Sutton, Lincoln Center General Manager

I'm excited to see this high powered A Cappella group. Straight No Chaser originally formed at Indiana University in 1996. After their recording of "The 12 Days of Christmas" had more than 13 million hits on YouTube, the Chairman of Atlantic Records saw the video and signed them to a 5 album deal. You can still see some of those YouTube clips on their website here. They also have an amazing PBS special and really are a blast in person. I'm very excited they are here for four shows at Lincoln Center March 29-31, 2012.

Tickets for this performance go on sale October 21st at Noon!
