New Legacies: Contemporary Art Quilts
The Lincoln Center Art Gallery opens its 29th annual exhibition of art quilts with a new name that reflects the contemporary evolution of the long-running exhibition. Now open, New Legacies: Contemporary Art Quilts features the work of 34 artists from the United States and Canada with 49 quilts on display.
The exhibition started in 1981 as the Fabric of Legacies and consisted mainly of traditional family and historic quilts. Over the years, the exhibition has taken a more contemporary direction, seeking artists who are working to innovate and advance the field of art quilting with new techniques, technology, and materials. Advancements in surface design techniques, textiles and machine quilting technology have changed the face of quilting. The creative vision of artists has brought contemporary quilting into the realm of fine art.
Juried from a selection of entries from around the country and Canada, the exhibition features the work of some of the best artists working in the field. Most of the quilts feature original surface design through hand-dying, painting or printing on the fabric as the basis for the quilt design, embellishing with hand or machine stitching, and sometimes beads and other objects worked into the quilt. All of the quilts have in common the basic structure of layered fabrics held together by stitching.
The exhibition runs from October 7th through November 13th.

Note: The following article was written by Travis Garrish, owner of Forma Furniture, who along with his wife Dee Ann Garrish donated all of the amazing new furniture to the Lincoln Center. If you haven’t seen it yet, stop by and check it out!
By Travis Garrish, Lincoln Center sponsor
Dee Ann’s family started importing and selling Danish Furniture in the early 1970’s. Upon moving to Fort Collins the idea was born to continue the family legacy.
We want our showroom to reflect our belief: if we wouldn’t put it in our house, we wouldn’t feel comfortable putting it in yours. Our style is unique, fresh and comfortable, with quality guaranteed.
Our business thrives when our customers happily spread the word about Forma Furniture. We opened our newest store in Boulder this July. Our core values and belief that you deserve comfort, you deserve quality and you deserve value show in everything we do, and our success has proven our dedication to our customers.
Our 7th Anniversary Party will include giveaways to all our VIP e-club members and special savings, and our Grand Celebration will be held on Saturday, October 29th, from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. We will be serving Norwegian delicacies like smoked salmon and cheeses. We’ll also be giving away tickets to South Pacific and gift baskets by Backcountry Baskets with a minimum purchase.
When we first discussed the idea of helping with the Lincoln Center renovation, we knew we wanted to help, but we couldn’t do it alone. So, in partnership with the Wilkins Charitable trust, we were able to donate all of the furniture to the renovation. From the beautiful custom lobby bench, to the modern classic Corbusier style chairs and sofas to our favorite colorful and funky outdoor patio furniture, we had a blast decorating the new spaces. We are thrilled to show off our beautiful contemporary furniture and the city’s new crown jewel.
