If You Think You Know the Lincoln Center...Think Again!
After a 14 month and $8 million renovation, the new Lincoln Center is 20,000 square feet bigger, considerably brighter and dramatically improved thanks to a 55,000 square foot renovation that touched virtually every facet of the building.
Built in 1978, the infrastructure of the building was never designed to accommodate 230,000 plus visitors each year. Although the building was much loved and well-used, it had also started to become a bit shabby and outdated in appearance.
In 2005, the voter-approved Building on Basics quarter-cent capital sales tax renewal was passed by Fort Collins voters, ultimately providing $5.5 million of the funding for the renovation. Remaining funds came from an estate gift, the Downtown Development Authority, the Lincoln Center Support League, other large grants, and private contributions.
The focus for the renovation came from what is known as “The Second Experience.” This includes everything that building users experience when attending an event here, other than the event itself (which is considered the first experience). It includes things like comfortability, building aesthetics, easy of use, traffic flow and patron-staff interaction.
The renovation focused on improving both patron and performer "Second Experiences" through added amenities including: a new rooftop deck, a new Founders Room for smaller events, expanded lobbies, three new permanent bars, a new and conveniently located Box Office, a contemporary new visual arts gallery, new (and additional) bathrooms, major acoustical upgrades in the Performance Hall (thanks to a grant from the Downtown Development Authority), improvements to the Canyon West Ballroom, a new dressing complex for the Performance Hall and an updated exterior provides the opportunity for greater climate control and enhanced energy conservation.
Not all of the improvements are as obvious as those listed above. The ticketing system also received a major overhaul, and now features print-at-home ticketing and offers the option of purchasing on Facebook. Patrons also can view their seating options on our website and soon will be able to see what their view of the stage will be from their potential seats before they purchase online.
We're excited to unveil this Fort Collins crown jewel during our Grand Re-opening Weekend and hope that you'll agree Lincoln Center is Refreshed, Renewed, Remarkable!
