Minimum Job Requirements

Requirements may vary, depending on the nature of the work and some positions may require previous experience of some type. Job postings will provide specific and detailed requirements for all jobs that are posted by the City.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT: This group includes, among others, secretarial, clerical, accounting, and lower level administrative positions. A high school diploma or GED (General Equivalency Diploma) is required for all positions and a minimum of one to two years of related work experience for more responsible levels of work. For most administrative support positions, a working knowledge of word processing is a requirement and in all secretarial/clerical jobs there is a minimum keyboard typing speed required.

SKILLED TRADES: This group includes positions such as equipment operators, bus operators, parks maintenance technicians and building maintenance. A high school diploma or GED is required and any position requiring driving must have a valid Colorado driver's license, a clean driving record, and in some positions that operate larger vehicles a CDL (commercial driver's license) is required. Some skilled trades jobs require related experience of varying degrees.

PROTECTIVE SERVICES: This group includes police officer and firefighter jobs. The minimum educational requirement for both is an Associates degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university. Police and Fire require a valid Colorado driver's license and a clean driving record; EMT certification is required for Fire. No prior job experience is necessary, but police and fire selection processes include a written test and physical agility testing. Police testing also includes psychological evaluation, polygraph and drug screening. The minimum age for testing for police officer is 21.
