SUMMARY: This is a 9-month seasonal position with the City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Program in the Natural Resources Department. The Park Ranger’s Assistant/Maintenance Worker works closely with the Natural Area Ranger to plan, schedule and perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to vegetation management, park amenities maintenance, and visitor contact tasks at Gateway Natural Area, which is located 5 miles west of Ted’s Place on State Highway 14. The employee is expected to work up to 40 hours per week and is paid time-and-a-half for hours worked beyond 40 each week. The employee is expected to work all weekends and holidays from May 1 through Sep 30 and all other weekends as needed and determined by the employee’s supervisor. This is an hourly-with-benefits position that does provide eligibility for one of two medical plans at the employee’s cost, but does not include other insurance or retirement benefits. The employee only accrues personal leave if he/she works at least 30 hrs/week for 6 months or more. The employee is paid for standard City holidays. If the employee is required to work on a holiday, the employee is given the choice of receiving holiday pay or having another day off as a substitute; day to be determined by the employee’s supervisor. Housing for a period of 9 months for one person only is available if needed. Housing is located at Gateway Natural Area for the selected candidate at a minimal rental rate. A lease is required to be signed if housing is accepted.
