General Site | Neighborhood Park | Spring Creek | Bike Trail | Parking | Building Description | Garden Descriptions
The Spring Creek corridor through this site previously had little natural resource value, although it has great potential for restoration. As part of this project the non-native and invasive plant species were removed, such as Russian Olive trees, and the large cottonwood and willow trees were preserved. The adjacent fields had previously been leveled right up to the banks, in order to accommodate flood irrigation. The grading associated with the Gardens on Spring Creek restored a more naturalistic grade to the creek corridor, through cutting back the banks somewhat and creating a meandering two-year floodplain. The corridor will be replanted extensively with appropriate wetland and riparian native plants. A portion of the corridor will be accessible by an informal path for the purpose of environmental education. The restoration work will be done with the assistance of riparian naturalists and restoration hydrologists.
