Spring Creek Community Gardens
The Community Gardens encompass roughly ½ acre and includes 35 plots that are 10' x 15' in size. The Gardens on Spring Creek provides community gardeners with water, hoses, an automatic irrigation system, water tank, composting bins, garden shed, message board, and picnic table. Gardeners are asked to provide their own tools which they may store in the garden shed. The entire community garden area is fenced and gated. Access is given to only garden staff and current community gardeners. A community garden coordinator will act as liaison between gardeners and garden staff. The coordinator will organize community garden work days, plan activities, coordinate communication, and pass along any educational opportunities to community gardeners. Vegetable gardening season in Fort Collins typically begins in late April and extends through the middle September. At the end of gardening season, plots are rototilled and amended with organic materials. Gardeners grow a wide range of vegetables, herbs and flowers and utilize organic methods for pest control. The 35 plots are rented out by the season. Plot fees total $100 of which $50 is the rental and $50 is the deposit. Deposits are returned to community gardeners after they have cleaned up their plots as required by the end of October.
