City Council Results for the Holiday Display Policy

Option 1C Adopted 6-1 (Nays: Troxell)

The council adopted a Revised Holiday Display Policy (Resolution 2007-103 - Version C) that incorporates elements of both the existing policy and a portion of the Task Force recommendations (PDF/350KB). This version of the policy:

  • Retains most aspects of the current policy for Oak Street Plaza and the interior and exterior of City buildings
  • Adds an educational, multi-cultural display at the Museum
  • Adds the creation of artwork depicting the diversity of traditions in our community, which could then be displayed on and within City buildings and Oak Street Plaza.

Fort Collins Holiday Display Task Force

In July, 2007, City Council passed a resolution (PDF 34KB) that authorized the formation of a Holiday Display Task Force. The Holiday Display Task Force is charged with reviewing the City's existing holiday display policy (PDF 28KB) and making recommendations regarding the display of religious symbols on public property. The 20 representatives were appointed by the City Manager after applying for the position during the month of July. The task force will begin meeting in August and will make recommendations to the City Council no later than October 31, 2007.
