School Tours

Make The Gardens your next field trip destination!

When are tours offered?

Tours for school groups are offered between April 1st and October 31st. In the summer months, we offer tours for day camps for kids of all ages.

What do tours involve?

Groups may spend time in three main areas, the Children's Garden, the greenhouse, and the classroom. Groups spend between 10 -15 minutes in each area.

What topics will kids learn about?

We cover a broad range of topics depending on the age group. Some subjects include plant care, plant diversity, season extension, community gardening, sustainability, conservation, composting and other environmental issues.

Do you offer plant related lessons or other activities?

Yes. Depending on plant availability and the time of the year, we offer the option to do a hands-on planting activity in the greenhouse. Planting activities cost an additional $1.50 per/child.

How far in advance do I need to schedule a tour?

We are a small staff, so the more time you can give us in advance the better. At a minimum, we ask for two weeks notice.

Do you offer tours for different age levels?

Yes. We offer tours for all age groups, from pre-school to high school age. Tour lengths and topics vary depending on age levels.

What hours can I book a tour and how long do tours last?

Tours typically last 45 minutes to an hour. Tours are available Monday - Friday between 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

What is the maximum number size for a tour?

We can accommodate up to approximately 60 kids at a time with roughly 15 kids in each of the four main areas.

How much do tours cost?

Tours cost $2.50 per child with a minimum of 12 children per tour. Adults are free. For groups smaller than 12, we recommend a self-guided tour. We ask that full payment be received two weeks in advance. Checks should be made payable to "The Gardens on Spring Creek".

What if I have to cancel?

Cancellations with two weeks notice will be refunded. Cancellations with less than two weeks notice will not be refunded.

What happens if there is inclement weather (heavy rain, lightning)?

For groups of 25 children or less, tours will be held indoors. For larger groups, we will do our best to reschedule for another date-- otherwise a full refund will be issued.

Can we eat lunch at The Gardens?

Yes. Having a picnic outdoor in the Children's Garden is a great idea. You will however, need to bring your own drinks, as our drinking fountain is located indoors in the greenhouse. We offer several picnic tables, a shelter and several grassy areas available on a first come first served basis.

Preparing for your trip

A portion of the tour will take place outdoors, so plan and address accordingly to Colorado’s ever changing weather. Items to consider include: a water bottle, warm layers, rain gear, a sun hat, and sunscreen.

How do I make a reservation?

Download and complete the school tour intake form, including the size of the group, preferred date(s) and time(s) and an email or telephone number where you can be reached.
