You can save thousands of gallons of water by installing a 1.6 gallons per flush (gpf) toilet, without sacrificing performance. Save even more with a high-efficiency model that uses 1.28 gpf or less.

New Toilet Recycling Program

If you’re planning to purchase a new, water-efficient toilet, you can now recycle your old one instead of sending it to the landfill.

A cooperative venture between the City of Fort Collins Utilities, Natural Resources and Streets departments, and the local non-profit ReSource, now offers a free recycling program for porcelain toilets and urinals.

Drop off toilets at ReSource, 1501 N. College Ave., a retail store that sells used building materials. Call (970) 498-9663 or visit www.resourceftcollins.org for hours of operation.

Toilets are taken to the Streets department crushing operations site. The crushed porcelain, which has excellent compaction qualities, is combined into an aggregate and used as road base.

Recycling is free if the seat cover and any metal or plastic parts have been removed; otherwise there is $5 fee. If you have three or more toilets to recycle, take them directly (at no charge) to the Streets facility at 1380 Hoffman Mill Rd., Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
