Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® can help you solve home comfort, moisture and indoor air quality problems, while lowering energy bills. Energy-saving measures, installed by contractors qualified to work under this program, may qualify for a rebate of 20% of the cost, maximum $500.

Home-performance contractors identify problems and solutions often missed by conventional contractors. They use a whole-house approach and specialized diagnostic equipment to get past the symptoms and deal with root causes. Home-performance contractors are trained to address a wide range of issues related to:

  • the shell of the home (insulation, air sealing, windows, moisture control);
  • mechanical systems (heating and cooling, hot water);
  • lighting;
  • appliances;
  • healthy indoor air (combustion safety, pollutant control, ventilation).

The process begins with a comprehensive home assessment to understand where the problems and opportunities lie. The home-performance contractor will provide you with a prioritized list of recommendations to solve the problems. Before calling the job complete, home-performance contractors test the installed measures to be sure they’re performing as expected.

The ENERGY STAR Connection

Home Performance with ENERGY STAR is part of the national ENERGY STAR program. In order to brand their services with the widely recognized ENERGY STAR label, participating contractors commit resources to training and agree to operate within a quality assurance program coordinated by E-Star Colorado. Fort Collins Utilities has supported comprehensive, “whole-house” contractor training through E-Star Colorado. Learn more and locate qualified contractors at Colorado Home Performance with ENERGY STAR.

Cost

There are no set fees for these home-performance contracting services because solutions are specific to your home and services are offered by private contractors. You can expect the comprehensive assessment to cost several hundred dollars, due to the time required for detailed inspection and testing. Contractors may offer financing.

Rebates

Rebates are available for energy-saving improvements installed by contractors qualified under the Colorado Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program. Rebates are funded by Fort Collins Utilities and the Governor’s Energy Office.
