ENERGY SCORE

ENERGY SCORE logo An ENERGY SCORE rating assesses the major factors that determine how much energy your home uses for space heating and water heating.

Who performs the rating?

ENERGY SCORE is provided by certified energy raters who charge between $150 and $250 for typical homes. Fort Collins Utilities offsets $50 of the cost for homes rated within city limits.

What does the rater do?

The rater will visit your home—or review plans for a new home—and collect detailed home information. A site visit usually lasts one to two hours, depending on the size and complexity of the home.

The energy rater then organizes all of this information and enters it into a computer model which calculates how your home uses energy.

ENERGY SCORE results

The energy rating provides two results:

  • The ENERGY SCORE is a number from zero to 100 that gives you a way to compare your home against others or to document building code compliance for a new home. A higher score means a more energy-efficient home.
  • A Detailed Energy Report provides the breakdown of energy use by different components. This is the starting point for identifying potential energy improvements.

ENERGY SCORE results are used o help determine eligibility for zero-interest loans for home energy improvements.
