Drake / Ziegler Phase 3 Construction Project May/June Update

Construction of the final phase of the Drake/Ziegler Improvement Project is underway. LaFarge-North America was awarded the contract in mid-May and construction began on June 1, 2008.

The project is being built from south to north and includes installation of a precast box culvert, a cast-in-place box culvert, a roadway drainage system, curb, sidewalk, overhead lighting and asphalt pavement. The project will be complete in mid-September 2008.

When completed, the roadway will meet the Fort Collins’ two-lane arterial street standard and feature 8’ bike lanes, 12’ travel lanes, 12’ center lane for left turn movements, 10’ parkways and 6’ sidewalks. The roadway will tie into the recently completed roundabout intersection at Horsetooth/Ziegler and the dead end at Drake Road/Environmental Drive.

WORK THAT WAS COMPLETED IN JUNE:

  • Reinforced Concrete Pipe, Manholes and Inlet Boxes have been installed to provide drainage for the roadway.
  • Structure Excavations for the Cast-in-Place and Precast box culverts
  • Waterline Installations to provide future waterline connectivity to developers.
  • Concrete formwork, steel work and bottom slab for the cast-in-place box culvert.
  • Precast box culvert was installed.

NEXT MONTH’S CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE:

  • Structural concrete work will continue on the cast-in-place box culvert.
  • Fly-Ash treatment of the roadway subgrade will be done in early July and a second fly-ash operation will be done in late July.
  • Aggregate Roadway Base will be installed on top of the fly-ash treated subgrade.
  • Concrete curb and gutter installation will begin from south to north.
  • COFC Light and Power will begin installing overhead lighting and an electrical duct bank.

The City wants to remind everyone that the Drake-Ziegler Improvement Project is being completed in a full roadway closure. That means the roadway is closed to all unauthorized vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians. There are several hazards within the worksite that can result in bodily or property damage that the City and Contractors will not be held accountable for due to the roadway closure. Please stay out of the work zone.

We have also had a few residents contact us with specific requests and we have tried to resolve those issues. We are always happy to answer any questions or listen to any comments that you may have. Thanks for all of your patience and cooperation.
