Climate Wise

City of Fort Collins Image Climate Wise is a voluntary, city-run program that is dedicated to helping local business and the environment. Through environmental assessments and creative solutions, the City of Fort Collins Climate Wise Team helps businesses tackle modern-day business challenges that impact bottom lines and the quality of life in Fort Collins. Read on to learn how your business can be part of the more than 170 elite local companies that have joined the Fort Collins Climate Wise program.

 

2009 Business Environmental Program Series

The 2009 Business Environmental Program Series kicks off September 8 (9:00am - noon) with "Funding Options to Green Your Business." Climate Wise business partners may use programs in this series to satisfy their partner level meeting requirements. All programs are free and open to the public (RSVP requested).

Climate Wise 2009 Fall Fair

The 2009 Fall Fair took place on November 5th, 2009, from 8 to 5 pm at the Drake Centre (802 W Drake Road). The event was well attended with approximately 130 Climate Wise partners who participated in workshops and presentations throughout the day. Workshops included a Climate Wise New Partner Orientation, MyClimateWise online reporting database launch and various educational sessions to help partners improve their sustainable practices.

This year’s featured presenter was Margarita Maria Lenk, Ph.D, CMA Associate Professor at CSU, discussing the Organizational Approach to Sustainability. Her presentation offered provider partners with framework tools for organizational sustainability commitments and discussions.

Partner Profile: Larimer County

Larimer County is the seventh largest county in Colorado and encompasses 2,640 square miles. The Larimer County Government is currently working toward reducing its impact on the environment. In 2006 the County formed a green practices committee to address environmental issues and help the county fulfill its mission statement of reducing the environmental footprint of County government.

The goal of the Climate Wise program is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting waste reduction, energy savings, alternative transportation, water conservation, and practicing pollution prevention. Businesses that join the program are provided with free:

What does Climate Wise do for Fort Collins?

The Climate Wise program is helping the Fort Collins community meet some of its greenhouse gas reduction goals highlighted in the Local Action Plan to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions that was adopted by the Fort Collins City Council. So far, participating businesses in the Climate Wise program reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 100,000 tons of CO2e per year (as of 2008). This represents more than 40% of Fort Collins' overall reduction.
