NOTE: If you are experiencing trouble logging on to City Talk, please call 221-6790 (Information Technology Department, IT), and we'll assist you in logging on to the system.

Purpose:

City Talk is an online, interactive forum for discussing topics related to City services, policies, projects, or programs. Your questions or comments must be related to the stated topic(s) being discussed. City Talk will only be available during scheduled chats and for discussion of limited topics as announced by the City.

Chat Schedule:

• April 17^th (Tuesday) noon - 1pm with Mayor Martinez

Process:

City Talk is a moderated chat room. This means your messages will be sent to a moderator prior to being posted on City Talk. The moderator will organize and consolidate questions and comments received, and will present them to the chat room speaker in order to facilitate the discussion. As a result, you may experience a delay in seeing your message being posted, or there may be messages that are not posted by the end of scheduled chat due to time constraints, or other considerations.

At the end of each chat room session, the messages that have not been posted (due to time constraints or other considerations) will be displayed for all participants to read if desired. In addition, a log of each City Talk discussion will be stored and made available for future reference.

If you have follow-up questions or comments that were not addressed in City Talk, please use the Eyes and Ears of Fort Collins, which will send an E-mail to the City Manager.

Registration:

Please register in advance to City Talk.

Information you provide for registration must be accurate and complete.

Don't forget your user name and password once you've registered. Please note that if you check the 'Remember Account' box on the registration page, you may use your account for subsequent City Talk chats.

Please be sure to enter a valid originating E-mail address when you are registering. This will enable the City to assist you if you forget your user name and password.

By registering for City Talk you agree not to allow other people to access this service using your identity. Also, you may not use the password or identity of other participants or represent yourself as another person. Failure to comply with these registration requirements may result in termination of your participation.

Chat Tips:

• The chat loading time takes between one-to-two minutes to load depending on your modem speed (minimum modem speed is 28.8)
• You must have Java and Java Script enabled on your browser for all three client types (Java Chat, Java Light Chat, and HTML Chat) to work
• Java Light Chat is recommended for most users
• For slower modems (28.8) or if you have trouble logging on, use HTML Chat
  • HTML Chat will refresh the browser every time you hit the send button
  • HTML Chat refresh can be changed by selecting User Options and Refresh Rate
• If you log out and immediately log back in, you may get the message 'The user is already logged on. Try again.' This can occur as the Chat system may take a few minutes to update user information, so please wait and try back again shortly.
• Use the Send to Moderator button and not Enter on your keyboard (using Enter generates a false invalid screener message)
• If you're using older versions of Internet Explorer, you must type in Http:// in front of the URL
• To keep answers flowing, responses may come in several segments. When you see - -, this means that the answer is complete
• If you're responding to another Chat participant, for clarity please refer to them by their user name

Before entering the City Talk chat room, you must read and acknowledge these rules.

Your questions or comments must be related to the stated topic(s) being discussed. Failure to adhere to this will result in your questions or comments being withheld by the moderator.

Posting of defamatory, threatening, or disruptive comments or obscenity is prohibited. Repeated submission of disruptive comments may result in termination of your participation.
