FC Bikes Presents Open Streets

Thanks for joining us for the Inaugural Fort Collins Open Streets on Sunday, July 14, 2014!

Open Streets initiatives, or car-free events, have increased dramatically in popularity through the United States over the past several years, following the success of Bogota Columbia’s weekly ciclovia, or cycle way, where more than 70 miles of roads are closed to motor vehicles. In Colorado, Denver and Boulder have both hosted a variation of the ciclovia.

Fort Collins first Open Streets event was held July 20, 2014 along Whedbee Street and West East Laurel Street. The event was developed with four goals in mind:

  • Promote and increase active transportation.
  • Promote and increase physical activity and social health.
  • Increase awareness and acceptability of streets as public facilities with multiple uses.
  • Building communities by engaging residents of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

Next Open Streets: Scheduled for 2015
