"If It is possible to get this out to your email list that would be great.  My wife Jen who was riding with Rebecca would love to see as many people from the Fort Collins bike community ride their bikes over to the oval to be together for the  Friday, July 25 Funeral/Memorial Ceremony, 1-2:30, p.m. - CSU Oval (southeast end).  Jen feels a good showing could make everyone see the strength of the Fort Collins Cycling Community.

Colorado State University and the Journalism and Technical Communication Department suffered a terrible loss Tuesday morning when Rebecca (Gumtow) Allen was killed in a traffic accident.

Rebecca was on a regular Tuesday morning bike ride with her friend Jennifer Garvey (also a CSU employee) on west Drake Road when both were struck from behind.  Jennifer Garvey was treated and released from McKee Medical Center.

Dramatic impact on JTC Department

Rebecca was a great friend and a stellar employee with a wonderful spirit.  In one year as undergraduate program administrator she made a dramatic impact on the department.  She loved her job and took a personal interest in helping hundreds of students individually as well as faculty with details that kept the undergraduate program operating efficiently.

Outstanding CSU alumna

As an undergraduate student in the JTC department from 2000 to 2002, Rebecca worked for the department's TV equipment room until she graduated, when she was named one of the department's outstanding graduates.

After graduation, she worked for Recycled Cycles where she met her husband Greg, then worked for the CSU Benefits office and the CSU Instructional Services office before taking a job as a writer with Sierra Trading Post in Cheyenne.

Rebecca returned to the department in the summer of 2007.  In addition to working as undergraduate administrator, Rebecca enrolled in graduate level classes and was planning on earning a masters' degree to enhance her career as an advisor.

Avid cyclist and loved the outdoors

Rebecca was an avid cyclist who promoted safety.  She also loved the outdoors and was dedicated to protecting the environment.

Rebecca was a graduate of the department's Television News and Video Communication concentration, and the department's TV Alumni scholarship will be renamed in her honor.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Department of Journalism and Technical Communication for this purpose.
