Bike Summer Fort Collins Kicks Off with Mia Birk
The City of Fort Collins’ FC Bikes
program is pleased to present the 2011Bike Summer Fort Collins campaign. Bike Summer Fort Collins was created to help
residents of Fort Collins experience the freedom and joys of bicycling for both
recreation and transportation.
Bike
Summer Fort Collins is about helping residents transition into cycling as a way
of life while providing them with the skills and education to bicycle safely
and confidently along streets and trails.
It’s also a celebration of our local cycling culture and to embrace the
many social, environmental, and economic benefits that bicycling offers.
Mia
Birk, former Bicycle Coordinator for the City of Portland, Oregon; president
and founder of Alta Planning + Design, and author of her new book, Joyride: Pedaling Toward a Healthy Planet will
officially kick off Bike Summer Fort Collins activities.
“Mia
Birk is a pioneer and active leader in working toward advancing the goals of safe
cycling throughout cities in North America.
We are excited to learn from Mia’s experiences and to share innovative, best
planning practices with both residents and officials throughout municipalities
in the Northern Colorado region. Her latest
book provides the inspiration and ‘know how’ to help transform our social and
physical infrastructure to accept and accommodate cycling as a viable form of
transportation”, says Dave “DK” Kemp, Bicycle Coordinator for the City of Fort
Collins.
