This piece is installed on the shoreline of Sheldon Lake in City Park was inspired by a gazebo-like structure at the lake in the early 1900's.
Artist Brower Hatcher has created "Solar Path," a luminous sculpture featuring a dome-shaped network of twinkling solar lights atop four neoclassical columns. Its placement on a small peninsula on the East side of Sheldon Lake in City Park dramatizes its nighttime impact as the lights reflect off the surface of the lake. The geometric dome has been shaped toward the path of the sun in Fort Collins. Progressive layers of geometry were added to a basic dome shape, each layer being drawn toward the path of the sun. The resulting form is a record of the process.
