About Us

The City Natural Resources Department was created in 1985 in response to the City's desire to take a leading role in the development of programs which conserve the natural resources and environmental quality of Fort Collins.

The department consists of four major program areas:

• Air Quality
• Natural Areas
• Recycling and Solid Waste

Major programs developed and coordinated by Natural Resources include:

• presenting environmental education programs
• monitoring and improving the City's air quality
• managing programs to collect items for recycling
• managing wildlife habitats and natural areas
• reviewing development plans
• coordinating environmental management programs through a comprehensive Environmental Management Plan
• informing the citizens of Fort Collins about environmental conditions and issues facing the City.
