*Population & Housing Unit Estimates These estimates are made by the State Demographer's Office through cooperation with Advance Planning. However, the State's estimates for a given year are typically not completed until the latter part of the following year (e.g., the 2007 estimates were not completed until the latter part of 2008, and 2008 estimates will not be completed until the latter part of 2009). Therefore, the City uses building permit information to produce preliminary population and housing unit estimates for the years not yet covered by the State. The City's preliminary estimates are identified with an asterisk (*). When the State completes the methodology to produce a new year's estimates, those estimates will replace the City's preliminary estimates.
†Housing Unit Increases The City's Building & Zoning tracks the addition of new housing units and new manufactured units through the issuance of building permits, and the loss of housing units through demolition or conversion to non-residential uses. Our Projected Housing Units represents data on the net increase of housing units in Fort Collins. In 2003, the City annexed a county enclave containing 91 housing units, and in 2008 the City annexed 82 units. These units were added to our new/demolished/converted housing unit data. Due to City ordinance definition differences with the State as to what constitutes a dwelling unit, our housing unit increase data does not exactly coincide with the State's increases in housing units from one year to the next.
