Rick and Bob Meserve Rick & Bob Meserve

Rick Meserve nominated his brother, Bob Meserve. The brothers will participate through the Partners Program, where both the nominator and torchbearer will carry the honor. Although paralyzed from a skiing accident almost a decade ago, Bob "constantly looks for opportunities to enhance life" through his disability. Bob was left paralyzed from the waist down in 1982. He re-learned to ski and competed as a member of the US Disabled Ski Team between 1989-1994. He is currently the vice president of the Board of Directors for Disabled Sports/USA, an organization committed to providing recreational opportunities for people with physical disabilities. "I have not let my disability hold me back in any aspect of my life," says Bob. "The Olympic torch is a symbol of the Olympic spirit, a spirit which I live by, for it is not in winning that makes you great; it is in trying!" Rick shares his brother's enthusiasm and notes that "in this time of world conflict, carrying the torch is a great honor."
