Kyle Gustafson inspires other diabetics who believe they can't accomplish their goals. He offers them the hope and the realization they can accomplish their dreams. Kyle remembers the look in children's eyes when they realize how diabetes might affect their lives negatively, and he knows that having role models help them survive, and eventually, reach their goals. By being selected, Kyle "will be able to continue on an ancient tradition of letting the flame burn."
